1. SIGNIFICANCE: IMAGERY OF HAS REVEALED A NEW, 25X1
HARDENED, BATTALION SIZE TA. SSM DEPLOYMENT AREA UNDER
CONSTRUCTION 15 NM NORTHEAST OF DAMASCUS. (SWN)
2. REMARKS: DUMAYR TAC SSM DEPLOYMENT AREA, IN THE MIDSTAGES OF
CONSTRUCTION, CONSISTS OF SIX LAUNCH POSITIONS AND SIX ADITS
(IN THREE GROUPS OF TWO). THE ADITS AND LAUNCH POSITIONS ARE
INTERCONNECTED BY ROAD AND AT LEAST 35 VEHICLE REVETMENTS ARE
DISPERSED IN THE AREA. CONSTRUCTION BEGAN BETWEEN LATE JULY
AND EARLY OCTOBER. THE NEW DEPLOYMENT AREA WILL PROBABLY BE
UTILIZED FOR THE SCUD TAC SSM. (SWN)
ANALYST'S COMMENTS--TWO FACTORS LEAD TO THE JUDGMENT THAT THIS
NEW DEPLOYMENT AREA WILL SUPPORT SCUD ACTIVITY. IT IS SIMILAR
TO THE THREE KNOWN BATTALION SIZE SCUD FORWARD DEPLOYMENT
AREAS, NEAR HIRJILLAH, 14 NM SOUTH OF DAMASCUS, WHICH
PRESENTLY SERVE SYRIA'S 155TH SCUD BRIGADE (SEE GRAPHIC). THE
155TH SCUD BRIGADE IS GARRISON~D AT AH TAC SSM
STORAGE AND TRAINING FACILITY , 10 NM WEST OF 25X1
THEREFORE, THE NEW DUMAYR DEPLOYMENT
AREA MAY BE THE FIRST OF THREE ADDITIONAL/ALTERNATE SCUD
DEPLOYMENT AREAS WHICH WOULD BE LESS VULNERABLE
