1. SIGNIFICANCE: TWO LARGE PASSENGER SHIPS WHICH ARE INVOLVED IN
THE EVACUATION OF PLO FORCES FROM LEBANON HAVE ARRIVED AT THIS
PORT FACILITY. (SWN)
2. REMARKS: ONE OF THE SHIPS IS MEDITERRANEAN-MOORED TO THE MAIN
PIER AND THE OTHER IS UNDERWAY OFFSHORE INBOUND. AT LEAST 21
BUSES, 130 CARGO TRUCKS, FOUR HEAVY-LIFT TRANSPORTERS, AND
NUMEROUS SMALL TRUCKS AND SEDANS HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED IN A
STAGING AREA ASHORE, PROBABLY TO ASSIST IN THE TRANSFER OF PLO
PERSONNEL AND EQUIPMENT. THE PRESENCE OF HEAVY-LIFT
TRANSPORTERS SUGGESTS THAT SOME HEAVY ARMS/EQUIPMENT WILL BE
OFFLOADED. MOST OF THE YEMENI NAVAL UNITS NORMALLY BASED HERE
HAVE BEEN DISPERSED TO VARIOUS LOCATIONS OFFSHORE. ONE HALTER
MARINE 105-FT PATROL BOAT (PB), ONE PROBABLE ZHUK PB, TWO
YEVGENYA INSHORE MINESWEEPERS, AND ONE MECHANIZED LANDING CRAFT
ARE OFFSHORE; AND TWO HALTER MARINE 105-FT PB ARE BERTHED AT
THE PIER. (SWN)
BOTH OF THESE PASSENGER SHIPS WERE LAST OBSERVED LOADING PLO
FORCES FOR EVACUATION AT TARABULUS PORT FACILITIES
