Comments on questions raised by D/CRS:
1. Yes. We have considered both temporary loans and
purchases (in most cases really very long term loans). There
are advantages and disadvantages to each. At this point we
are not committed to either. The art to be displayed in the
Library should certainly harmonize with the art displayed
in the lst floor corridors, but it would not necessarily
be the same type of art. Much would depend on what is avail-
able and the conditions which may be attached to each work
of art.

2. The $1,000 figure was first suggested by

the meeting Mr. Pforzheimer, and I had with him

on
the
11 April 1969. Mr.~ believes this sum would enable
Agency's Fine Arts Commission to pool funds from other
sources for procurement of several suitable pieces of art
on an indefinite loan basis and have them placed in the Li-
brary. A similar procedure was followed in the case of the
art located on the first floor.
3. Mr. explains that the CIA Fine Arts Committee
would provide the introduction to the art collections avail-
able under the National Fine Art Trust and supply advice and
assistance in the selection of the paintings. Personnel
from the Fine Arts Committee, CRS and Logistics would be
among those involved in the selection process.
4. This office erred in failing to route the proposal
through ISG. It was not intentional and I assume the
responsibility for this error.
