SUBJECT: Processing Weekly Report for
Week Ending 11 August 1981
1. Systems Availability: Attached is the Systems
Availability Report.
2. The Microdata 8750 System was delivered on 4 August
to Ames Building. This system will replace the Microdata
6000 for CAPER/PERINSUR application for office of Personnel.
were redistributed to reduce data base contention. This is one
of the steps planned to help improve response time on GIMPROD.
3. The availability of the major Ruffing Center software
systems was above average for the week. COLTS lost 90 minutes
at startup Wednesday because of a JES software problem. Friday,
at startup, COLTS lost 90 minutes due to an OCR procedural error.
A Telex disk drive failure on Monday impacted all systems for
varying lengths of time from 1015 until noon. The Versatec plotter
was down from earl Thursday through Monday, creating a large
backlog.
4. In the Special Center, CAMS had a particularly bad week,
averaging about three major failures a day. There were numerous
remote line problems caused by a printer control unit and an
apparent Telex disk controller failure, all resulting in over
14 lost hours. TPSTAR started 96 minutes late on Saturday when
its computer was tied up processing a STAR batch job.
5. Engineering Division met withi
representing the Office of Finance, Assistant Director for
Liaison, and a delegation from the Army Foreign Science
Technological Center to discuss arrangements for this rou
to purchase six Delta Data 7268T's from the Agency.
6. On Sunday 9 August 1981, several data bases on GIMPROD
reports for the Comptroller will be processed after this.
7. The FY83 OMB Budget exercise will commence this week.
The major part of the user activity on the GIMS budget data bases
should be completed by early September. The combined Directorate

8. Three additional disk drives and a controller will be added
to the GIMPROD system on Friday 14 August. This is the next step
to provide space for spreading data bases across more controllers
in an effort to improve response on GIMPROD. This will also
provide the space needed for new data bases planned, through
early FY82.
9. We will be meeting with the Quality Control Group, IMS,
to brief them on PCB use of VM facilities and our documentation
procedures and requirements.

12. CEMB/ED cabled two newly installed IBM 3880 Disk Controllers
and four IBM 3350 Disk Units. They are currently being stress
tested by MMB/ED.
10. Program changes, made to correct several problems, have
created problems in sending chrono messages to the DBCC. Applica-
tions is investigating. MPS was down for several hours on Saturday
because SY4 was IPL'd with MPS active. A Datex cold start on
Sunday caused a 45000 cable gap which caused space failures in
MPS processing. Repairs were hampered by VM beinjdown for
scheduled changes and by the Xerox 9700 being do n and the backup
unit not switched into the system.
11. System B1 was installed in the Ruffing Center on
8 August 1981. This software has ACF2 support for the new
Y and Z tapes, and fixed problems discovered in SYSTEM BO.
The problems in the BO were with the new interpreting punch and
one of the SHARE banks channel addresses. III
