SUBJECT: Processing Weekly Report for Week
Ending 28 April 1981
1. Systems Availability: Attached is the Systems
Availability Report.
2. The Ruffing Center had a moderate week. On Wednesday
a faulty Telex disk controller caused a loss of all systems except
VM for at least an hour, and OCR for 82 minutes. Thursday was an
excellent day. Friday JES and Batch lost an hour due to a bad
cable, which was replaced. Saturday JES and Batch lost 112 minutes
due to a bad card in a channel. The PDP Graphics Interface Controller
failed on Monday, causing almost all TADS users a 6.5 hour loss of
service; OLTA also lost 3.3 hours due to a software problem in OLTA.

3. The Special Center had a fair week. The memory on an
IBM 370/158 failed many times, causing numerous outages of DDO
applications from Wednesday through Monday. The latest repairs

due solely to CAMS software; the longest CAM outage was on Friday,
STAT with 104 minutes lost.
4. Test of the new backup generators was conducted by HEB
on 26 April. ODP computer centers were isolated from the test by
transferring Vepco power to a diesel generator and later back to
Vepco with no problems to the ODP centers.
5. Procurement action was initiated to procure 24 interim
3350 disk spindles. This action is being processed on a priority
basis by ODP and OL/ADP&EB due to the serious shortage in online
storage space brought on by the delay in the 3880 technology.
6. The IBM 4331 GIMINI Development System was relocated from
the Ruffing Center GC03 Point area to 1D16 on 28 April. Reinstall-

figuration was required to change addresses for the GIM master console.
10. Two Hetra 3780 printers were installed in the OER Registry
for use with the Message Routing System. Due to insufficient power,

with the CDS hardcopy system, OER does not appear concerned over the
large backlog of print at the end of the day. STAT

the 360/20, will now be printed on the Xerox 9700 in GC03. This
