SUBJECT: Processing Weekly Report for
Week Ending 16 June 1981
1. Systems Availability: Attached is the Systems
Availability Report.
2. The PMO (Pilot Mail Operation) terminals are now
running at 4800 baud versus 2400 baud.

3. The Ruffing Center had a good week overall. TADS had
no lost time problems and the Versatec plotter was up all week.
VM had several outages Thursday mostly due to Telex disk controller
faults, totalling over two hours lost. AEGIS lost an hour Friday
due to a tape drive problem. JES and Batch lost 85 minutes
Saturday due to a head crash on an IBM disk drive.
4. The Special Center had a fair week with problems on all
major systems. CAMS had several incidents Wednesday due to GIMD
software and to some procedural errors during Comten testing.
NIPS lost two hours Thursday at startup due to a prior Telex
disk controller problem. STAR also lost 78 minutes due to a disk
controller problem. CAMS hung or abnormally terminated several
times Monday and Tuesday due to CAMS software, bad data on a
paging disk pack, and JES software.
5. The new MPS system was installed on 13 June with only
minor problems. The loss of a Share disk due to I/O errors
caused MPS to be shut down for several hours on the morning of
STAT 15 June.
6. The May PAR was approved and distributed to users.
Processing for the May report was completed two weeks ahead of
schedule.
7. Serious system malfunctions have occured in both
PANVALET libraries. Efforts are under way to identify the cause

of the errors and restore the libraries. We are working directly
STAT with and have asked CSS and SPD for assistance. Until
the problems are resolved, users have been asked not to try to use
PANVALET.

8. 0 completed the installation of the 470/V6 in the
Special Center on Saturday, 13 June. The system is now undergoing
diagnostic checkout.
9 June of the Ruffing Center for representatives of the
Corporation.
9. SAFE Operations Personnel conducted a tour on Tuesday,
10. The automatic tape degaussers are scheduled for delivery
on Thursday, 18 June. These special purpose degaussers will
rewrite the Volume Serial Label after degaussing. They are
scheduled for installation in both Centers. These units should
eliminate the need for the current data erase procedure.

VM and DDO-STAR both reported below the goal of 96 percent
for the week with each application recording outages due to hardware,
software, and procedural errors.
- INTERACTIVE (VM) experienced 4 hours and 36 minutes of hardware
problems, 31 minutes of procedural errors, and a 10 minute software
outage.
- DDO-STAR had 4 hours and 6 minutes of hardware problems and a
24 minute software outage.
