Vice-President for the State of Virginia to. the Federal ADP Users Group (FADPUG), for the Capital Region and as such and the representative to the Executive Board of FF.ADPUC and the Interagency Co-mm itteee on Automatic Data Processing for all Federal ADP Users in Virginia except for the Tidewater Area. The purpose of this communication is to acquaint you with the organization, its objectives, and some of the plans for fiscal. year 1973. FADPUG was established under the general authority and guidance of the Interagency Committee on AI)P. This was in accord with the desires of the President as expressed in a.White House Memorandum of 28 June 1966, and also supports the requirements of the "Brooks Bill" (Public Law 89-306, dated 30 October 1965). The purpose of the organization is to improve the management and use of the Federal Government'.s ADP resources by: 1. Promoting the sharing and exchange of ideas, ADPE techniques, ADP systems, applications, and programs among ADP Managers/Users. 2, Promoting the professional development of ADP personnel and enhancing the understanding of A.DP, with a view towards improving the use and management of Federal ADP Resources. 3. Promoting the development of closer relationships and better communication among ADP installations. 4. Promoting a better understanding of ADP policies and guidelines as promulgated by the Central Management Agencies (OMB Circular A-71). I'm sure you would agree that the purpose and. objectives are sound. How does FADPUG proceed to accomplish itc purpose? Several vehicles are used to include general membership meetings, special interest group seminars, and the distribution of literature. Prior meetings featured, a Navy presentation on a large computer utility to support the Navy users in the Norfolk area. vice the multitude of systems and supporting staffs now in being and Dr. Frank Ryan, Director of. Management Information Systems for the House of Representatives, U.S. Congress, who discussed present ADP support to the Congress and future systems plans. Both sessions were outstanding. The Special Interest Groups meet during the months that general membership meetings are not held. There are five cur- rently in being: Computer Support and. Operations; Tele- communications; ADP Standards; Input/Output Technology; and Software. Mr. Bill Lanius, Department of Agriculture, is the Chairman of The Special Interest Groups. He will be glad to provide you any further information. If your organization does not now have a regular or associate membership in the FADPUG, I hearily recommend it to you.
