Approved For Release 2006/09/28: CIA-RDP84-00780R0012bt?d4 }0 -7 2 ?c 8 SECRET -3' I L E 2 0 MAY 1966 MEMORANDUM FOR: Acting Deputy Director for Support SUBJECT Emergency Power for Agency Headquarters Facilities REFERENCE . Memo for D/L fr ADDS dtd 26 April 1966, same subject 1. This memorandum is for information only and is a periodic progress report as requested in reference. 2. Representatives of the General Electric Company, Virginia Electric Power Company, the General Services Administration and this office met on 11 May 1966 to review a scheme of operation, engineered by GE (Mr. Suter), to parallel (synchronize) the 2-2000 KW emergency genera- tors with the VEPCO system and allow the emergency gener- ators to assume the building emergency load with VEPCO remaining on the line. This would permit the operation of the generators at full capacity for testing and GSA operating personnel training without a break in the power flow to the building. Periodic testing and training are essential to satisfactory operation of the generators. 3. Mr. Suter's scheme of operation was discussed from a technical, operational and safety viewpoint. It is generally acceptable and the drawings have been trans- mitted to the VEPCO Systems Engineer at Richmond for his recommendations and approval. Mr. Suter will present his scheme to the GE design and construction group for a cost estimate. It is proposed that the Agency fund a GSA con- tract with GE to accomplish the installation. 4. Engineers from this office are developing recom- mendations for the modification of the existing uninter- rupted power supply. Consideration is being given to the feasibility and economy of locating these units in an area outside the Headquarters building; i.e., in the powerhouse, if space could be found, otherwise, in a structure to be ~r1OFs'I: D F Pjge : SECRET Approved For Release 2006/09/28: CIA-RDP84-00780R00200040028-7 Approved For Release 2006/09/28: CIA-RDP84-0078OR001200040028-7 SUBJECT: Emergency Power for Agency Headquarters Facilities constructed adjacent to the powerhouse.
