SECRET Approved For Release 2003/04/29 : CIA-RDP84-0078OR001200040020-5 4 OCT 1966 MEMORANDUM FOR: Acting Deputy Director for Support SUBJECT Emergency Power for Agency Headquarters REFERENCE Memo dtd 26 Apr 65 to D/L fr ADD/S, same subject 1. This memorandum is for your information only and is a periodic report as requested by the reference. 2. In the matter of the 2 - 2000 KW emergency generators, General Electric is presently preparing a cost and time estimate of the work that will be involved in modifying the metering and controls to allow us to operate in parallel with the commercial power sour-:e (VEPCO). These estimates should be available the week of 3 October. The installation is not expected to be finished until the third week in February 1967. 3. We have received comments from the Engineering Staff, Office of Communications, on our preliminary feasibility study for modifi- cations to the uninterrupted power supply at the Headquarters building. The Office of Communications indicated that the existing 200 KW (UPS) emergency generator is to be abandoned and that eventually automatic start (20 - 30 seconds) diesel electric generator sets are to be used for standby power in a different location. This office is presently con- sidering several sites for the location of these units. A scope of work is being prepared to be used in preparing the drawings and specifications to accomplish these changes. Support SUBJECT : Emergency Power fort ;ency Headquarters REFERENCE Memo dtd 26 April '_)5 to D/L fr ADD/S, same subject 1. This memorandum is for your information only and is a periodic report as requested by the reference. 2. The scheme for the proposed operation of the 2 - 2000 KW emergency generators in parallel with commercial power sources was reviewed by General Electric, VEPOO, and CTA Engineers on 7 September 1966. The final scheme has been -formalized and agreed upon. Mr. Merle Sutter, GE Engineer, will siimuit a cost and time estimate for this modification on or about 1 )ctober 1966. VEPCO will submit to the General Services Arlriiinistration a proposed revi3ion to the contract for the purchase of electric Gower to reflect this changed operation. The necessary instruments and relays required to accomplish the tie in of these emergency generators with the commercial power source are scarce it;mns proc~zrement-wise. Due to the long procurement lead time of these items, the work will commence approximately 1 February 1967. After receipt of these items, it will require about two weeks to make these modifications. 3. The Engineering Staff, Office of Co 1unications, has indicated that they have finished the review of our preliminary feasibility study for modifications to the uninterrupted power supply at the Headquarters building. We will proceed with the final draft when we have received their comments. 25X1 Approved For Release 2003/044 AM, ti~ X13 setor of Logistics ,orgf e oon 3A467s4 downgrading and declaasllicatIon
