Richards' theorem is famous as introducing a key to
Bott and Duffin's method for the synthesis of a two-
terminal network without the use of mutual inductance.
The present paper proves that by treating the ex-
pansion of Richards' theorem into a four-terminal
network with a matrix, an almost identical theorem
is obtained. On the basis of this proof a methodsolv-
Ing a four-terminal network is proposed. This is an
important step In the synthesis of a coupled- line wave

Starches were reacted with acrylonitrile in the co-
presence of alkali. At this time, cyanoethyl etherifica-
tion and saponification reaction of this ether to car-
bo)Wethyl ether occurred. Under optimum conditiorts, a
water-soluble ether could be obtained by using the
nitrile and NaOH each in quantity of about IQj of the
starch. The approximate composition necessary to ob-
