sted fmixtry at Witten a hot blest cupola with a basic
PAevallargy. = v. 6, no. 12) (ov-)

lining was installed as a premelting UnIt to supply
molten pig iron to the open hearth and the c1cctric
steel melting shops. Apart from making hot metal
available to the open hearth furnaces the molten pig
Iron was Int--nded to facilitate duplexing in the arc
furnace after oxygen blowing in an LD converter. or
direct casting from the latter. The technical con-
etruction, lay-out. and Integration of the combined
insmIladon and the detailed design and construction of
the LD converter plant are discussed. The special
characteristics of the converter construction are de-
scribed and thv consequent advantages pointed out.
