(U/AIUO) OPTIONAL EARLY RETIREMENT The Director of Security announced that the DCI has approved a limited program permitting certain employees the option to retire on an "early out" basis (any age with 25 years service). The option is limited to Grade 15 and above and will not extend beyond 30 September 1977. 7. (U/AIUO) INDUSTRIAL SECURITY PROGRAM Mr. Gambino advised that the DCI has demonstrated an intense interest in industrial security and, through corre- spondence to contractors, has informed them of his insistence that strong security safeguards must be established and observed. Further, the DCI has made it known to contractors that he is determined to protect sources and methods and will exercise his statutory authority to do so. 8. (U/AIUO) EXPANDED OS ROLE IN INDUSTRIAL SECURITY 25X9 The DCI has authorized new slots for Fiscal Year 1978 25X9 lots for FY 1979 to permit implementation of tighter control over the security practices of contractors. It is anticipated that the chief of a new unit within OS to handle this tasking will be named in the very near future as a prelude to permanent assignment of the balance of the unit's staff. The Director of Security intends that the new unit will be functional as soon as possible, to relieve current ad hoc arrangements. 25X1A The DD/PSI visited during the week and inspected the site of the recent rnci ent. It was noted that damage was exte to the degree the lack of personal injury 25X1A is remarkable. has moved to temporary quarters and it is hoped relocation to permanent quarters will be accomplished in six months. The DD/PSI has consulted with the FBI regarding the incident and advised the Bureau is conducting an intensive investigation. 10. (U/AIUO) PROFESSIONAL APPLICANT REVIEW COMMITTEE The DD/PTOS will be relieved as Chairman of the committee on 3 October 1977 and will be replaced by the Chief/SSD/PSI. Mr. Gambino remarked that assignment to the committee is a heavy burden to officers who must carry the full load of regularly assigned duties. However, the quality of professional personnel hired over the past few years evidences the value of committee work. (U/AIUO) PROJECT OUTREACH Family Day tours have been postponed to the last two weeks in September. At that time more visitors are anticipated because of the end of the summer vacation period. Other events associated with the project such as "media day" will be delayed. 12. (C) PERSONAL NOTES 25X1A recovery from an operation is progressing well an he is scheduled to return to work on 22 August. 25X1A is recuperating at home following surgery.
