This memorandum is for Information only. (U) 2. The activities of the Office of Security during the week of 2 - 8 August 1979 were highlighted by the followinS items: a. The Office's Information Systems Security Group has not on three occasions with State Depart- ment Security representatives over the past two months to provide advice and guidance to the Department in their attempt to organize a similar unit. Talks to date have concentrated on mission statements, areas of responsibility and staffing patterns. (U) 3. On 8 August, the Industrial Hygienist accompanied representatives of the Mail and Courier Branch, Office of Logistics, to the Phillips Company plant in New Jersey to inspect various x-ray devices. OL is in the process of selecting a new x-ray mail and package screening device. The Industrial Hygienist also went to the Baltimore-Washing- ton International Airport on 2 August to inspect devices marketed by two other companies. 2. Members of the Safety Branch have been working with the Technical Security Division in an attempt to establish a training program in radiation safety for the engineers and technicians. Efforts are also underway to have a Radiation Safety Officer formally appointed and to have him attend additional specialized courses in radiation safety. 3. The Chief, Overseas Security Support Branch, briefed was a viaeo presentation ot the tests. The ISG has been ~' developed by DOD and the Armor Working Group has conducted testing to determine whether it has applicability in the personnel protection field. PROJECTIONS: 9 - 15 August 1979 1. Industrial security audits of three contractor facilities in the midwest are scheduled to commence during the week of 13 August.
