1. This memorandum is for information only.
2. The activities of the Office of Security during
the week of 21 - 27 January 1977 were highlighted by the
following items:
a. On 24 January 1977, Office members act with
representatives of the Intelligence Community Staff (ICS)
to address the security posture of the new ICS Building.
Occupancy of the building is imminent and its proposed
population has increased over lmd percent. In addition,
plans for the storage of compartmented information have
been substantially modified. A plan addressing needed
security requirements is being prepared by the Intelligence
Community Staff Security Officer.
b. A representative of the United States
Department of Labor, Office of Federal Agency Safety
Programs began the annual audit of the Agency Safety
Program on 24 January. The activities of the auditor
will be sporadic and will span several weeks. A formal
report will be prepared upon completion.

c. On 25 January, security support was provided
the Acting DCI in connection with an appearance before the
House Armed Services Committee. Similar security support
will be provided on 31 January when the Acting DCI is
scheduled to appear again before this Committee.
d. On 28 January, an Office representative will
brief four staff 'members of the house Appropriations Committee
on personal protection procedures for their use duri
pending visit
e. During calendar year 1976, the Agency received
5,463 items of crank mail. This volume represents a.highwater
mark. in comparison with calendar years 1974 and 1975 when
1,818 and 4,224 items of crank mail were received.

providing protective support to the Chief of

recent qualifying of the Chief of Station in the use of
small arms weapon.
g. The trial of Mr. Edwin G. Moore, II has been
set for 20 ;March. In the interim, the Office of Security will
continue negotiations with the Department of Justice to
identify documents found in the possession of Mr. Moore
which are appropriate for release In court.
3. Projected Office of Security activities for the
week of 28 January 1977 of possible interest at the Directorate
level include:

1. This memorandum is for information only.
2. The activities of the Office of Security during
the week of 14 - 20 January 1377 were :highlighted by the
following it-ms:
a. On 17 and 18 January, security support was
provided the DCI in connection with appearances before the
Senate Appropriations Committee and the Senate Foreign
Relations ?:o=ittee.
b. On is January, at the request of the Office
of Cozuaunications, an Office member met with representatives
of the Office of Commuaications and tie Directorate for
Operations to d %cuss security aspects of the planned
consolidation of the Special Signal Center and the Cable
Secretariat. This meeting addressed controls needed . to
preclude distribution of sensitive compartmented traffic
to unapproved., ronindoctrinatod personnel or offices.
d. On 19 January, an office of Security nether
accompanied representatives of GSA and the National Archives
to Flint, Michigan to assist in final stora^;e arrangeaeats
for dir. Ford's "Presidential Papers".
