Mr. Allen W. Dulles, Director
Central Intelligence Agency
Washington 25, D. C.
February 17, 1960
Thank you for the nomination of a candidate for special
recognition at the Engineers, Scientists and Architects Day
luncheon to be held on February 25, 1960, 12:30 p.m., at the
Presidential Arms, Washington, D. C.
Final decision will soon be made by our Awards Committee
as to the winners among the nominees. In the meantime., we
feel that all nominees, whether or not among the winners, are
deserving and should be given public recognition. We plan,
therefore, to have them all attend the luncheon, sit together,
be recognized by name and organization and presented with an
appropriate certificate.
A table has been reserved for the nominees. Unfortiately,
we do not have the funds to make these tickets complimentary L
so we are hoping that your organization will be able, formally
or informally, to pay the $3.00 for the ticket, and if not, that O/
your nominee will choose to do so. Please contact Mr. J. C. i
Kinsey, 14000 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland, for ov
tickets as soon as possible. (Telephone WHithall 27200) 7,
We trust that you or others in your organization will also
want to attend the awards luncheon at which Dr. James Van Allen,
Professor of Physics, Iowa State University, will be the principal
speaker. He will speak on "The Radiation Environment of the
Earth.tt Space - the great challenge of the 1960's -- will be
the keynote for the entire five-hour program, which begins at
9:30 a.m. with an open discussion among four leaders in science,
engineering, and architecture; moderated by Dr. Thomas J. Killian,
deputy chief, and chief scientist, Office of Naval Research.
