Gates Deputy Director for Intelligence DCI/DDCI-Assigned Tasks DDI Activity Report, 25 October - 29 October 1982 EURA and SOVA prepared background material and briefing notes for the DCI's trip to NATO next week. At DCI request, OGI prepared talking points for Judge Clark on Libyan terrorist training facilities. At DCI request, OGI prepared material on foreign competitive threats to US industry for the Cabinet Council on Commerce and Trade. .OSWR briefed the DCI on the_ results to date of the DDI Technology Transfer Task Force. OSWR provided the DCI a briefing note on a proposed Belgian export to China of an advanced telephone switching system. SOVA prepared a response to Senator Percy's I October letter to the DCI requesting an unclassified assessment of forced labor on the Siberian pipeline. As of 28 October, the draft was still awaiting submission to the DDI and DCI, pending a review to ensure that an Intelligence Community consensus was reflected. Of Special Interest This Week ALA continued work on an analysis of Cuban-Soviet economic aid for Assistant Secretary Enders at State. Approved For Release 2007/03J03.CIA-RDP83M00914RQO2$00050053-2 SECRET EURA briefed James Buckley, head of Radio Free Europe, on East European political and economic developments. D/NESA attended a meeting with Secretary Shultz on an Arab-Israeli peace initiative. Feedback on the first issue of the International Financial Situation Report indicates that Treasury policymakers believe it is "right on the mark." Similar reactions have been reported from Commerce officials. OSWR assisted in a briefing for Gen. Walters and Ambassador Kennedy on the Pakistani nuclear weapons program. An OSWR analyst is a member of a State Department briefing team which is visiting Paris, Brussels, Bonn, and London to discuss Yellow Rain. Looking Ahead Two ALA division chiefs will leave for Europe to brief the Allies on Africa. Briefings The Directorate was involved in 5 briefings at the staff level this week.
