Intelligence Community Staff
- The COMIREX staff continued coordination with the Drug Enforcement Administration
and the National Security Council Staff on a combined USG collection operation
8-11 November against drug trafficking
Directorate for Administration
- On 21 October, a briefcase/package inspection was conducted
one incident of possible unauthorized removal of classified material resulted which will
require further investigation. A similar inspection was conducted at Headquarters on
26 October, and six incidents require further investigation.
- Under Secretary of the Navy James F. Goodrich, members of his staff, and Captain
Richard Anderson, USN Assistant for Interagency Coordination for the Office of Naval
Intelligence, visited for briefings.

Deputy Director for Intelligence
- SOVA prepared a response to Senator Percy's 1 October letter to the DCI requesting an
unclassified assessment of forced labor on the Siberian pipeline. As of 28 October, the
draft was still awaiting submission to the DDI and DCI, pending a review to ensure that
an Intelligence Community consensus was reflected.
- OSWR assisted in a briefing for Gen. Walters and Ambassador Kennedy on the Pakistani
nuclear weapons program.
- An OSWR analyst is a member of a State Department briefing team which is visiting
Paris, Brussels, Bonn, and London to discuss Yellow Rain.
National Intelligence Council
- Papers that should be ready for review at NFIB's next meeting include the NIE on
global instability, the SNIE on PLO dispersal, and the NIE oni We 25X1
are also expediting redrafting work on the Pakistan SNIE in orcier o nave it ready for
NFIB concurrence early in November, well before President 7ia's U.S. visit.
NIO/General Purpose Forces called on Marine Corps Commandant General Barrow on
26 October. General Barrow was particularly interested in the GPF proposal to
produce an NIE on Soviet forces opposite the Persian Gulf, which he feels is "long
overdue."

General Counsel
- The CIA and Intelligence Community Legislative Program for the first session of the
98th Congress has been furnished to the Intelligence Community Staff for
incorporation into the consolidated National Foreign Intelligence Program budget for
fiscal year 1984 and submission to the President via the Office of Management and
Budget. A copy of the Program is attached.

Inspector General
- The Executive Director, General Counsel, DDO and IG have been working together to
develop a response to the Congressional Oversight Committees' interest in regularly
reviewing our oversight procedures and findings.
The fact-finding interviews for the survey of staff applicant processing procedures
have been completed, and the team expects to have a draft report this week.
- IG has been informed that Ed Wilson's Houston trial has been postponed until
29 November to resolve the question as to whether or not Wilson's lawyer needs a
security clearance.

graduation exercises of Georgetown University's School of Science and Arts,
on 24 October. The graduating class consisted of 55 Medical Technologists.

cases involving shortages/overages totaling approximately $11,000. (In
comparison, 35 cases were adjudicated in FY-1981 involving about $24,000.)
