Fitzwater Deputy Director for Administration SUBJECT: Weekly Report for Period Ending 17 December 1982 1. Progress reports on tasks assigned by DCI/DDCI: The Directorate of Administration submission for the DCI's 1982 Annual Report to Congress is being submitted to the Executive Director on 17 December. 2. Items/events of major interest: a. Military Operations Training Course 1-83 concluded on 10 December Lieutenant General James A. Williams, Director, 25X1 Defense Intelligence Agency, was the guest speaker. b. The second successful running of the "Survival Spanish" course was held during 5 - 10 December with eight students in the course. All of the students have had many temporary assignments to Spanish-speaking countries, but had never formally studied the language. As with the first course, all of the students were highly motivated and enthusiastic. c. On 9 December, the Chief of the Analysis Training Branch, Office of Training and Education, met with , CIA Liaison Officer, 25X1 Department of Commerce, to discuss proposed brie ings by CIA personnel on the role of the Agency in-the intelligence collection and reporting process. These briefings would be provided to individuals in an Enforcement Division which is being established by the Department of Commerce to obstruct Soviet efforts to clandestinely collect sophisticated U.S. technologies. d. The first running of Communism in the Contemporary World began on 13 December with 25 students from all four Directorates. f. Negotiations for the architectural and engineering design contract for the new building on the Headquarters compound were initiated with Smith, Hinchman & Grylls Associates, Inc. on 15 December; the negotiations should be completed within the next several days.
