Both Mr. Charles Bierbauer of Cable News Network and Ms. Mary Mead of the Independent Network News filmed stories. ABC's reporter Susan King taped a film segment for the network program Good Morning America regarding CIA's recruitment program. This is expected to be broadcast on Monday, 31 May, as part of their news program. The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence held hearings on 26 and 27 May on the nomination of John N. McMahon to be Deputy Director of Central Intelligence. Following the hearing on 27 May, the Committee by a unanimous roll call vote agreed to recommend that the Senate confirm the nomination. Senate action is expected shortly after that body returns from its Memorial Day recess on Monday, 7 June.(U) A meeting with a member of Senator Gordon Humphrey's staff concerning S. 2255, the Senator's proposed Antiterrorism and Foreign Mercenary Act, produced agreement on the need for an amendment to ensure that this legislation does not inadver- tently affect the ability of the United States to carry out intelligence activities directed against international terrorism.(U) ANTICIPATED SIGNIFICANT EVENTS 29 May - 4 June 1982 Identities Legislation.
