C. 20505 OFFICE OF EXECUTIVE POLICY AND PROGRAMS Dear Mr. Casey: The South Carolina Governor's Office, Division of Public Safety Programs, will conduct a two-day seminar on terrorism April 27 and 28, 1982 at a facility located on the military reservation at nearby Fort Jackson, South Carolina. The purpose of the seminar is to familiarize certain key state officials with the current and projected threat of terrorism, both worldwide and within the United States. This training will hopefully enable these policymakers to plan for and direct programs in their agencies to counter possible future terrorist activities. Approximately 65 persons are expected to attend the seminar. We extend a cordial invitation to members of the Central Intelligence Agency to address the seminar on the history, organization, funding and global directions of terrorism. Paul Lunsford, Coordinator of the seminar, and a the Army War College faculty, has been in contact with Mr. from the National/Foreign Assessment Center at the agency, STAT w nom we a uld be extremely well qualified to give part of this presenta- tion- e are aware of the excellent reputation in this field of of your National Intelligence Council, and would be STAT p ease to have him join in the presentation. We, of course, would welcome and be pleased to have whomever you designate. We would like to schedule the CIA presentation from 9:30 A.M. to 1.2:30 P.M., Tuesday, April 27, 1982. Each of the speakers would have an opportunity to address the audience in his own area of expertise and then, as part of a two-man panel, would'respond to questions from participants.
