Approved For Release 2007/01/25: CIA-RDP83M00914R002700160028-0 June 11, 1982 The Honorable William J. Casey Director Central Intelligence Agency Washington, D. C. 20505 I am writing to invite you to a reception I am hosting with several other Senators for Gene Knorr, the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate from North Dakota. Gene's prospects for election are excellent. Recent surveys reveal that North Dakota voters want a change this year in their Senate representation. North Dakotans surveyed express a strong preference for a senator who is not a liberal Democrat like the incumbent, but who, like Gene Knorr, is a conservative Republican with a strong background in agriculture, business and public service in Washington. Gene also knows what it takes to win the election in November. He turned in an impressive victory in March of this year over well-qualified opponents in winning the endorsement for Senate of the Republican state convention. He has now put together an -aggressive and effective campaign organization of the kind required to deliver to all North Dakota voters the message that he has the capabilities they are looking for to provide them with fresh and vigorous leadership in the Senate. Gene's election to the Senate is very important to me, and so I am co-sponsoring this reception and asking you and other friends to join with me in making this event a success by taking this occasion to contribute $500 or more to Gene's campaign. I hope you will be able to join me and the other host Senators personally at the reception for Gene here in Washington from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, in the Preamble suite of the Hay Adams Hotel at 16th and H Streets, N.W., to help assure Gene's election to the Senate. Sincerely yours, Approved For Release 2007/01/25: CIA-RDP83M00914R002700160028-0
