Admiral,
I talked to both Gregory and Carey. Both tried to be surprised; Gregory
hid behind "no reason to doubt the truth of Carey`s statements" and editorial
judgment. Carey was contrite and apologetic and wanted to assure you he meant
what he said in the first paragraph of his piece and would appreciate the chance
to discuss your differences with him at some point. Gregory will be glad to
print your letter.
