The Hunger Project
The end of hunger acid starvation on our planet by 1997. An idea whose time has come.
September 1981
CANCUN: A-SUMMIT OF WORLD LEADERS
Heads of State from 22 countries, including some of
the richest and poorest in the world, will assemble
in Cancun, Mexico, on October 22 and 23 at a Summit
Meeting focusing on food, energy, economic growth,
and trade -- issues central to ending hunger on our
planet..
Never before have so many Heads of State met face-
to-face for the purpose of substantive discussions.
This meeting has extraordinary potential to further
the global fight to eradicate the hunger and poverty
that so dramatically .separate the developed,
industrialized countries known as the "North" and
the developing countries known as the "South."
With the latest issue of our newspaper A Shift in
the Wind, The Hunger Project is launching a nation-
wide campaign to inform the public about the Summit
and to generate grass-roots support for this
important meeting.
Because of your leadership in your community and
your ability to influence public opinion, The Hunger
Project especially wants you to have the enclosed
advance copy of A Shift in the Wind 11. Page 3 of
the newspaper contains a complete briefing on the
Cancun Summit ,and its origins. Pages 4 and 5
include background information and statements by
world leaders on .the need for these discussions, as
well as suggestions on how individuals can support
the meeting.
If in the future you would like to receive additional
information on hunger in the world and on our work,
please complete the enclosed card and return it to
The Hunger Project.
Sincerely,
1~ ~~
