As you know, the subcommittee staff has prepared summaries of the 17 CIA
documents relating to OPEC petrodollar surpluses, flows, and investments, the
publication of which has been at issue. These summaries were furnished to CIA on
June 3, 1982, in response to CIA's expressed willingness to enter into nego-
tiations with the subcommittee on the production of realistic and meaningful
public summaries of these documents.
The Committee on Government Operations will meet on August 10, 1982. In view
of the time constraints, it would be helpful if the subcommittee could receive by
Wednesday, July 21, 1982, the CIA's specific responses to the subcommittee's
draft summaries.
