C. 20401 APR 6 1982 Honorable William J. Casey Director Central Intelligence Agency Washington, D.C. 20505 The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) reportedly held meetings and programs in Leipzig (East Germany), and is planning a conference at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, N.Y., from August 29 to September 1, 1982. One of the reported purposes of the planned conference is "to improve cooperation and communication among Government printers, publishers, librarians, and users of Government informa- tion. " A sourcz',of unknown reliability reported that the IFLA is a Communist front organization. In view of the Government Printing Office's involvement in printing and distributing Government publications and our employee contacts with various affiliated interest groups, request information whether or not the IFLA may be dominated or influenced by a group whose interests are not compatible with the national security interest of the U.S. Government. Enclosed is an IFLA Newsletter for your information. Sincerely,
