XDIRa 0/OEX"-.- Executive Secrets Approved For Release 2007/05/16: CIA-RDP83M00914R001900 $ j } Ex?cu Eve Re%bg ~~ _!~."J_L/-cam 5 November 1982 MEMORANDUM FOR: Curator, Historical Intelligence Director of Central, Intelligence 1. Thanks for sending me all that material. Last weekend I put the enclosed together, taking large portions from your documents and from my Revolutionary War book. I think it's only necessary to go on and do about the same thing with South-Carolina and Yorktown,-plus a few intervening events. 2. The material taken from my book perhaps gets.into.too much detail and will need to be edited down. Then there's a need for., some broad coverage on the general intellligence of the war which would put the whole concept of the book.in context. I need to work in somewhere the.Nathan Hale story and any other earlier intelligence missions and activities. 3. Take a look at it and let me have whatever ideas. you have for rounding it out, improving and polishing it. I am quite sure I can get a commercial publisher and would let the in-house educational fund take the royalties, provided you agree. Much of the material woul_d?_be yours. L Annroved For Release 2007/05/16: CIA-RDP83M00914R001900230044-3 ironed For-R,efease 2007/0511-6 : CIA=RDP83M00914R00190023 Mr. Casey: 2. Page 5, para. 1. This paragraph. is much the same as Page 6, paragraph 2. "Committee of Secret Correspondence." Are these all the same committee? . Incase they might be helpful--and to clue you in on what I did in a coupe-_p:laces that were unclear to me--here are some notes: 1. 1~ge 5, line 2. "committee of safety and correspondence." I notice that in your book there's a "Committee of Public Safety; in Flexner's, -a "Committee of Safety"; and in "Intell in the War 3. Page 6, para. 3. Note ? on the date. 4. Page 21A. Marking on page 16, "Intell. in_the. War..." not clear, but I believe you do not want this page included. 5. Page 29. I have paperclipped to this page a paragraph "D" marked in your book, page 69, but not on your outline. If it should be included it would be the penultimate paragraph. 6. Page 8. The last sentence on this page is marked paragraph "F" in Flexner's book, page 173, but not on your outline.' Perhaps this sentence should 'be deleted. 7. All excerpts from Flexner's "The Young Hamilton" are underlined. cc:
