SUBJECT: Western Sources of European Gas
In doing a follow-up on the assessment of Western sources of European.
gas dealing with the additional points which Secretary Carlucci and
Secretary Olmer have raised, include an assessment of the availability of
Iranian gas. Iran has more gas than anybody else except the Soviet Union.
There is a project being developed by pipeline through Turkey across the
Aegean into Italy. The economics of this project are said to be better than
the Siberian or Norwegian gas,
