2. In referent memorandum you requested that the offices
of the support Directorate submit proposed topics to be considered
for future inclusion in the CIA Historical Program. This memo-
randum conteins the Office of Security's comments concerning this
matter.
The recently completed Security Prom of the Centr
Intelligence /::geimr_12.141768 is considerably broader in its treat-
ment of the subject matter then most of the organleational component
histories which were prepared during the Agency'a latest history
writing effort. Consisting of nine separate volumes and approxi-
mately 3,100 typed page*, it traces the developmeot of the DCl's
Influence in the area of his statutory responsibility for the protection
of intelligence sources and methods, as it was manifested both within
e:nd outside of the Agency?although admittedly from the perspective
of the Agency's Director of Security. The DDS repreeentative on the
CIA Historical `-;triff has informally agreed that the existing Office of
-lecurity historical series is in most respects consonant with the
xecutive Director-Comptroller's expressed wishes es to the charac-
ter of a revised, on-going Agency historical program. Consequently,
have only two suggestions that might be considered as appropriate
to the character of the revised program.

4. In my opinion the subject of 3ecurity in the ADP
nvironrrient is an area to be watched fog a possible future
historical work?future, because the subject has not yet
developed to the point of achieving a historical perspective.
T would agree, however, that this subject might be dealt with
by including it within some overall Agency treatise dealing
with CIA advances in the field of ADP application to the intelli-
gence processes. The Agency's alien affairs program, to which
OS makes a substantial contribution, might also be considered
as a suitable subject of a volume describing the overall program,
with the Office of 5ecurity making an appropriate contribution to
the work.
Fi of this time, I have no additional recommended
topics for inclusion in the CIA historical series.
