SIGNIFICANCE: Identification of an airfield under construction near
Berbera, Somalia.
2. REMARKS: On 19 April 1975, an airfield was observed under construction
4 nautical miles (nm) southwest of Berbera Port Facilities
and 2 nm southwest of the Berbera Missile Handling and Storage Facility
The construction consists of one northeast/southwest runway with
initial surfacing in progress and a parallel taxiway or runway (not on
graphic). The distance from the point at which surfacing has begun to
the end of the cleared area is approximately 13,450 feet. The width of
the area being surfaced is 170 feet but a wider portion at the end of
the runway measures 470 feet. This airfield is connected by vehicle
tracks to a quarry about 1 nm to the southeast (see inset).
