SIGNIFICANCE: AN UGRA-CLASS SUBMARINE TENDER (AS) WAS OBSERVED FOR THE SECOND TIME IN RECENT MONTHS AT ANTILLA PORT, CUBA. 2. LOCATION: ANTILLA PORT FACILITIES ARE ON 25X1 THE-NORTHEASTERN COAST OF CUBA AT 20-49-25N 075-44-38W. 3. REMARKS: AN UGRA-CLASS SUBMARINE TENDER (AS) VISITED ANTILLA IN THE SHIP WAS OBSERV- 25X1 ED ON AND WAS MOORED ALONG- 25X1 SIDE AN F-CLASS SUBMARINE. ON OLD HEAD PHOTOGRAPHY OF AN UGRA- 25X1 CLASS SUBMARINE TENDER (AS) WAS OBSERVED ALONG- SIDE AN N-CLASS NUCLEAR-POWERED TORPEDO ATTACK SUBMARINE (SSN) AT THE FOUR-POINT MOORING SITE IN CIENFUEGOS BAY. A KRESTA-I-CLASS GUIDED MIS- SILE CRUISER (CLGM) AND A LENINGRAD-CLASS TANKER WERE ALSO PRESENT. COLLATERAL: A WASHINGTON NEWSPAPER, THE EVENING STAR, ON 6 FEB 1971 REPORTED THAT A SUBMARINE TENDER, A LIGHT CRUISER, AND A TANKER WERE ENROUTE TO CUBA. THE UGRA-CLASS SUBMARINE TENDER, ACCORD- ING TO A U.S. NAVAL MESSAGE, ENTERED CIENFUE- GOS HARBOR AT 08002 ON 14 FEB 1971. ACCORDING TO A DIA PUBLICATION(S), IN EARLY MAR 71, THE UGRA (AS) PARTICIPATED IN ASW EXERCISES WITH THE KRESTA-I GUIDED MISSILE CRUISER (CLGM) WEST OF JAMAICA. SHE THEN PROCEEDED ALONE NORTH OF JAMAICA AND THROUGH THE WINDWARD PASSAGE. ON 7 MARCH, THE TENDER MET THE CRUISER NORTH OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. ON 10 MAR 1971, ANOTHER U.S. NAVAL MESSAGE REVEALED THAT AT 090OZ THE UGRA (AS) 905 WAS LOCATED IN THE VICINITY OF 21-01:; 074-53W WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY 50 NM ENE OF ANTILLA. 5. MISSION READOUT: ON 12 MAR 1971, AN UGRA-CLASS SUBMARINE TENDER (AS) WAS OBSERVED MOORED ON THE NORTHWEST SIDE OF THE SUGAR PIER AT ANTILLA These notes have been prepared for briefing purposes only and should not be used for detailed analytical work.
