Approved For Release 1999/09/10 : CIA-RDP83-00423R00120 620b0 8 .L A Date: _ _kf _ _ COUN Y: Germany (Soviet Zone) SUBJECT: Chemical Production at Capacity in Leipzig Area PLACE ACQUiK D: DATE ACQUIRED: 25X1 X6 DATE OF INFO: Nov 53 25X1X6 25X1A2g 1.. All plants in the Leipzig area are operating at full capacity. Most of the products are going directly to the USSR and, therefore, are difficult to obtain. However, some gel chloride has been exported to Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden, etc, and we have ecl samples. From these tests we have determined that the product -is similar to and equivalent of the polyvinyl chloride produced in World War II. 2. ,one is produced at Schkopau near capacity, and also polyvinyl chloride. A fair amount of caprolactam type nylon is produced at Wolfen,. All styrene is used in the production of synthetic er and, therefore, no polystyrene is exported and samples are not a b1e.
