Approviced ForF6g:g@@& 578 25X1A2g Country - Poland Subject - The Wiskosa Plant of Jelenia Gora (Bierutowice) Place Acquired Date Acquired - Date of Information Source Descriptio 25X1X6 25X1X6 1. "The following information dates up through 18 September 1953: 2. "The Wiskosa plant of Jelenia GoAa L Bierutowic7 is located on Warszawska Street. However, the plant buildings extend on for approxi- mately three to five kilometers toward Cieplic. The western railway station of Jelenia Gora is about a 20-25 minute walk away from the plant, and the plant is connected with this railway station by rail sidings leading directly into the plant. 3. "It is not possible to determine exactly what is taking place in the plant. It is only known that construction of new plant buildings continues. Some people say that the plant manufactures the Stelon type of stocking ( a copy of the US Nylon). There are other rumors that it manufactures, or will be manufacturing, munitions. 4. "Approximately 2-3,000 people are employed. Some of them are working in the plant; others are employed in the construction of new plant rt 5. "Many of the privately-owned houses on the left-hand side of Warszawska Street had to be evacuated, after those buildings became the property of the plant. Many of these buildings, occupied by civilians, were destroy ?..~ incorporated (obviously after change) into the newly-constructed buildins which take up the plant. The evacuation of buildings also affected the c-? fact that all the buildings were supposed to become part of the plant itsel., Approved For Release 1999/09/10 : CIA-RDP83-00423R001200570001-5 C r TION 25X1A2g OC. Over those concrete poles, a double row of barbed-wire was laid. "As far as I can recall, there were six to seven buildings composing the plant, but I am not sure as I never paid any real attention to the plant; there might be more than that. Its high chimneys make it possible for anyone to locate the plant. 7. "Only those people in possession of a special permit issued by the Wiskosa plant are permitted to go into the area belonging to and supervised by the plant. There are many entrances and gates, but I do not know how many or where they are located. Entrances are guarded, but I do not know whether by civilians or by the military. Not too far from the Wiskosa plant Lsee No. 4 on the. layout sketch e a'+ i a tt Y!`h~RT'l -.r 1-1-iare ore two f ,r 'i?...-....., i' 'hi -L - ---- - o o e ac s the Warsaw State Firm f name of firm unknown to source7 which directs the work performed within the Wiskosa plant (including the construction of new buildings). I do not know whether or not there are any other firms which are also in a supervisory capacity over the Wiskosa plant. 8. "A person about 20-25 minutes away from the plant in terms of walking distance can smell smoke from the plant if the wind is blowing in the right direction. This smoke had a very peculiar smell which is hard to describe. Sometimes it smells of chlorine and sometimes of putrified eggs" Svc/os(Ar-e (R is a sketch of the layout of the Wiskosa plant at Jelenia Gora.
