"Brazil Central Foundation Planning Construction of 350-Bed Hospital: The construction-0 f this 350-bed hospital will be started sometime during 1953 at Aragarcas. It will fit the requirements of the area between Aragarca and Xavantina. A bridge over the Araguia River will link the 25X1X6 states' of Goias and Mato Grosso. This, 25X1X6 his the result of plans that have been under consideration for a number of years to unite two of the richest areas in Brazil. 2. "Institucion National De Examen Dia'nostico - Ined.: This is the name of the new hos it l l p a ocated in the Vedado, Havaaa,at Malecon and 17th Street. Patients are interned only during the day, leaving the hospital after tests are made. There are, therefore, only a few beds in the hospital. Cost of construction is estimated at $175,000. Seventy specialists are attached to the clinic. There is a foto-fluoroscope that takes a picture per minute thus reducing the cost. One of the X-Ray machines is of German design which speeds up the examinations. The diagnosis rooms can be dis- mantled and used for other purposes. The offices are located on the lower floor of another new building. Dr. Carlos A. Fernandez is the hospital manager. ECUADOR "Two New Social Security Hospitals To Be Constructed - One in Guayaquil and one in Quito: Construction of these hospitals will be started sometime in May 1953? The cost of each is estimated at approximately $1,500,000. The hospital in Guayaquil will be completed in July 195+; the hospital in Quito, in December 1954. 4. "One of the Largest Hospitals to Be Built In Mexico Has Just Been Placed In erv ce: This hospital - the Hospital de la Raza - has been built by the Mexi n Social Security System. It consists of eight buildings. It has a total capacity of 800 beds, including 80 in a separate building for contagious diseases and 18 in a section for premature infants. There is also an auditorium and buildings for nurses and doctors. 5. "The Mexican Social Security System also has a number of hospitals under construction not only in the Federal Capital but in Acapulco, Guadalajara, Monterrey and Oaxaca. The present network includes 44 clinics, seven maternity hospitals, 214 first-aid posts in factories and 24 X-ray labor- atories. 6. "Hospitals Under Construction: The Workmen's Hospital located in La Oroya will be completed in May 1953. It has a capacity for 211 beds. Cost of this hospital amounted to $500,000. "Plans For The Erection Of A Children's Hospital Center: Dr. Eduardo Barrientos, Minister of Public Health, in a press conference announced the plans of the government to establish a Children's Hospital Center where children of all ages may be properly treated. A commission has been formed by Doctor Carlos Perez Cow a, Dr. Marcos Tulio Ma ana and Dr. Adalberto Gomez Mira (the last two are pediatricians), together with the Inspector General of Hospitals, Dr. Luis Gonzalo Oliva, to study this project. It will involve the addition of nine stories to the present Benjamin Bloom Hospital. This annex will be furnished with the most modern clinical equipment suitable for treatment of children's diseases. Costs will be covered by a fund left for this purpose by the deceased banker, Mr. Benjamin 1.1-100Z. The fund amounts to $1,200,000. Bids may be made now for construction and the clinical equipment required. "Central Hospital of Barquisimeto: According to Dr. Leopoldo Garcia Maldonado, Director of Hospitals of the Ministry of Health, this hospital will be opened early in 1954. It will serve the states of Lara, Yaracuy, Portuguese and Barinas. The new nursing school erected beside the Central Hospital will be inaugurated. in July or.August of 1953."
