3: The Nationalist Party members are intelligent and honest. I seriously doubt
that they will permanently alienate some one million whites of the United Party,
while they have the problem of handling nine million natives.
4: The United party have in my opinion acted foolishly. The difference between
the parties are mainly religious and are capable of amicable settlement.
5: The Germans in Southwest Africa and in Capetown do not like the Boers. Al-
though they voted almost unanimously for the Nationalists in the last election,
I think they will continue as an independent party or group in the future.
B 1: The recent victory of the Malan government has made absolutely no change in
our attitude towarda So..th African investment.
2: The government is absolutely dependent on the continued operation and.success
of the Rand gold mines and is not going to do anything to impair this success.
3: The native question will in my opinion result in a revolution some day but,
with the absolute control by the government of the army, police and arms, there
can be no native uprising which will interfere seriously with mining operations
for fifty years.
