Lapp farrding and fishing center, cultural center because of state church.
Lapp educational center. Located on international route from Finland to
seacoast and overland route from Kautokeino to Varangerfjord.
Geographic Description:
Inland valley type in plateau region. Farming and fishing economic basis
but area will. probably develop rapidly.

mountains and plateau in background. First terrace is 18 meters above river,
second 20 more.

Kautokeino and snowmobile or truck along Tana. River ice.
Other Transportation:
Horses are used extensively for local transport and reindeer for remoter areas.
Some private cars and taxis enter from highway #50 at coast or from Finland.
There was a Nazi airfii~ld in war years.
Important river boat (Lapp boat without engine) route in Summer on Karasjok River
and Tana. River used for mail and passengers. (See 1949 report of this)
