consumer-goods (Massenbedarfagueter) production in enterprises under the
Ministry for Machine Constructions
1. A letter from the Consumer Goods Commission of the Ministry to the heads of the
Main Administrations; concerning instructions for consumer-goods production based
on the protocol of the Kolle ium dated 14 March 1955. The letter emphasizes that
firms must economize in a use of materials in the production of consumer goods.

2. A letter from the Consumer Goods Commission to the VEB plant directors' outlining
the main points of the consumer-goods production program. (2 pages)
3. A report by the Main Administration for Light Machine Construction (HV Leicht-
maschinenbau) on the work of the Consumer Goods Commission. (L pages)
4. A memorandum from HV Leichtmaschinenbau, dated 2L February 1955) on the work plan
of the Consumer Goods Commission for the first quarter of 1955, to insure the ful-
fillment of the consumer-goods production plant. The work plan includes biweekly
meetings of the Commission, weekly visits by two members of the Commission to
enterprises, careful scrutiny of monthly enterprises reports, a thorough inspection
of two (not identified) enterprises of the Main Administration to lower production
costs of consumer goods, and prior to the end of the first quarter, to test at least
five articles, in conjunction with technical experts, to improve their classifica-
tion. (1 page)
