C0U IDENTIAL Approved For Rele s'e kR 09W4`P''UWDP83-00415R013600110001-7 25X1A G UATEMALA of Guatemalan Communist newspaper OCTUBRE OCTUBR is an organ of the Comm nisi Party and it reflects the social principles of Marx and Lenin. The main articles of the paper follow. The distribution of the Chocola Plantation to 383 farm-workers and 3 soldiers is headlined in the 13 November issue. Each received 5 manzanas of coffee lands and. 2 uncultivated manzanas for planting corn. Speakers at the ceremony lauded President Arbenz's agrarian reform measures. The 'Second Congress of the Guatemalan Communist Party will. lay the cornerstone for future propaganda and. provide ammunition against feudal ownership by foreign companies and their agents. In four full-length columns on Page 2, Alfredo Guerra gorges, director of the newspaper, reviews the successes and shortcomings of Party propaganda during the past 2 years. A full-page interview with Jose f'ianuel Portuny, 1?DE (Democratic i.;lectoral Coalition) candidate from the Department of Guatemala, emphasizes that reactionary forces must be defeated. at the polls if the masses are to benefit. A re-print of an appeal by the National Committee for Peace urges Guatemalans to send delegates from all walks of life to the Congress of the world Council for Peace which will be held in Vienna on 5 December. The international news section on Page 8 is devoted entirely to Eisenhower, warrior Truman's successor, and to the premature jubilation felt by feudal-imperial- ists who seek solace in the President-elect's "world crusade against Communism." / oreign doucment or microfilm thereof, available from CIA Library, 9 January 1953 CONFIDENTIAL SECURITY IN C]RViAkTTON Approved For Release 2001/09/04: CIA-RDP83-00415R013600110001-7
