Vine-growing
method for the grafting of
vines is being used in Jugoslavia.
In the localities ?f BANATU and I3ACKA, there is government
management for the devel?pment ?f vine-growing.
Grafts are usually made on the ~ and native vines,
which are the two types of vines mainly used.
System of grafting
The wines undergo a dry graft process and axe then
placed in suitable wooden boxes, in layers, with wood chips,
in order t? keep them separated.
After the grafting operat;i?n, the b?xds are put in a cellar
called a "STRATIFICALA" where the temperature is maintained
b~;tween 20 and 30 degrees for a period ?f 20 to 25 days.

After the 15th day, the temperature is reduced each day until
the normal temperature is reached.
Throughout the period., the vines in the "STRATIFICALA" must
be bathed daily with a 1?t of water and slam sprinkled with
a certain quantity of sulphur.
After about 25 days, the vines are inspected before leaving
the "CALOS" (STRATIFICALA=?).
This eperati?n usually takes place during March.
After the plants leave th.e "STRATIFICALA", they are planted in
suitable beds, arranged in rows, completely covered with earth,
and remain there until October or November when they may be
transplanted.
Vine diseasem
T'he.nost widespread vine disease is mildew, which is produced
by fungi that prefers to attaBk the leaves.

In order tc combat this disease, sulphur and c?pper sulphate
arc used in a mixture with a little lime.
NLildew is also harmful to the cultivation of potatoes, tomatoes,
turnips, various vegetable greens, hemp, and tall trees.
