NOTE
This list is an exPanded version of the roster of
Comintern personnel published underl 1 December
1947. It is not a complete biographical register and is
subject to correction and amplification. Although a
considerable number of previously unassembled data has
been included, the present list is by no means definitive.
The lack of information on individuals active in the
clandestine communication service and other field agencies
of the Comintern is particularly conspicuous. The absence
of adeauate checking facilities accounts for possible in-
accuracies in spelling and identification.
Appendix A, following page 157, lists Comintern
personnel by countries. Appendix B contains a list of ab-
breviations. Numbers in round brackets immediately after
the name entry in the first column refer to the pages of
a previous study, "The Third (Communist) International,
Structure and Functions," October 1947.

Mentioned in a letter of 8 Feb. 1931, to FED.
Allegedly former Comintern agent. According to one
report, an Austrian by birth who later became a
Czechoslovakian; lived for many years in Germany;
went often to Moscow and became finally a leading
member of the nComintern ApparatTr. Came to
Switzerland in 1940 and lived illegally in Geneva
until Nov. 1942. At this time he was arrested for
Communist activity and in May 1944 he was released
from prison and sent to an internment camp. Member
Freies Deutschland, spring of 1945. Left for
Germany about mid 1945 and by order of the Fremdenpoli-
zei, was barred from re-entry into Switzerland, Nov.
1948. In England Feb. 1947 as one of the delegates to
the 19th Congress of the OPGD. Leader of the 1=
(Member of District Executive for Hessen) in Frankfurt,
1948.
Once believed to be identical with Marie ARNAUD.'
