MONTHLY REPORT, JULY 1981
1. Moscow radio's program "Escucha Chile" changed broadcast
times from 2230-2300 gmt and 2330-2400 gmt to 2000-2030 and
2030-2100 for "technical reasons" and "to satisfy insistent
requests." The change was to take place on 1 July but occurred
the day before. The new frequencies have been checked.
2. To be further prepared in case an emergency should develop out
of Argentina's economic and political problems a search for
Argentine medium wave frequencies audible at the bureau was
carried out. This produced nine monitorable medium wave
commercial stations.
3. Chronic problems with reception of Peruvian radio stations
necessitated further cruising for alternatives. Search proved
fruitful on occasion of Belaunde Terry independence day speech
when Lima Radio Cronica on 9520 khz and Lima Radio Sol on
5970 khz were observed carrying the speech with fair-good
reception. Tacna Radio Tacna also heard at bureau with
fair-good reception on 9485 khz providing a backstop for Lima
Domestic Service in its hour-long newscast.
4. Reception for Santiago Domestic Service deteriorated during
the month, making it necessary to search for alternative
frequencies. A new frequency, 15140 khz, was discovered with
good reception.
5. Beijing International Service reception also deteriorated
during the month. A new frequency, 11445 khz, was found.
Cruising continues for more alternatives.
6. Work was begun on providing a program schedule for Sao Paulo
Radio Bandeirantes. At present program schedule', has not been
completed.

JULY 1981
1. During the month technicians:
a. Performed preventive maintenance on all Collins 651
Receivers and 15 Extel RO teleprinters and 3 ASR's Model
315.
b. Completed the rewiring of the Cruising monitor position.
A complete report, including an installation diagram is
being prepared for the bureau Chief.
2. In line with our efforts to improve Bolivian and Peruvian
Broadcasting Stations signals, technician on STAT
his own initiative travelled to the Chaco at about miles
from Asuncion to check medium and short wave reception of those
countries from that area, for three days. A report on the
favorable results were submitted to Bureau Chief.
3. A list of changes in accountable/controllable property is
attached.
