(Clandestine) Radio Liberation in Spanish to El Salvador did not return to the air during March. Toward the end of the month the other clandestine transmitter broadcasting to El Salvador, Radio Venceremos, had reduced its programming to one 15-minute show daily, purportedly due to "transmitter trouble." The government has continued its sus- pension of independent radio newscasts, and all stations still join Radio Nacional to broadcast the government-prepared newscast several times a day. 2. Another clandestine station, Radio Cuba Libre in Spanish to Cuba, was intercepted by the bureau on 29 March carrying a half-hour program with an anti-Castro slant. This program so far is broadcast on Sundays and Thursdays. 3. The local COPA airlines has discontinued delivery of the San Jose newspaper LA NACION. ELAD has been asked to pick up coverage of this paper temporarily until other delivery arrangements have been made. 4. The following cruising activities were carried out during the month: a. Extensive cruising of several Latin American and West European transmitters for the reported broadcasting of an "International Solidarity Network" cast allegedly prepared by the now defunct San Jose Noticias del Continente. Only Managua Radio Sandino was observed carrying this "inter- national" network cast, at 0530-0600 GMT Tuesday through Saturdays. b. Checked Radio Moscow transmissions to Latin America for pre-season frequency changes. c. Checked Quito Voz de los Andes for increased power or extended programming following reports on the installation of a more powerful trans- mitter. Results were negative. d. Checked 19295 Khz for an EFE radioteletype transmission reported by the BBC, with negative results. e. Updated programming for the two stations of the Nicaraguan San- dinist Television Network was provided from a Managua EL NUEVO DIARIO report. f. Observed Panama City Radio Mia operating around the clock, a change from 1000-0400 GMT. g. Observed a new Panama City station, Radio Universal, carrying test programming. ^pe I For Release 2007/05/08: C.lARfPR'i nn'iRSRnnn2nn110020-7 Approved For Release 2007/05/08: CIA-RDP83-00385R000200110020-7 h.
