HELMS APOLOGIZES
NEWSCASTER: "Newly appointed Director Richard Helms of
the Central Intelligence Agency has apologized personally to
Senator J. William Fulbright. Helms took full blame for
endorsing a newspaper editorial that criticized Fulbright,
although he said somebody else in the CIA had written the
letter under his name.
"Senator Wayne Morse said Helms should resign because
of his behavior. But Fulbright called such a step premature."
