Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff, concerning the briefing of
the Morse Subcommittee on Monday, 13 June at 3:30 P.M. I raised
the question of a security sweep with Mr. Holt who said there was no
objection from the Committee standpoint. I indicated that since there
was no'objection and since this was usual practice for us, we would go
ahead with a sweep. In further conversation on the substance of the
briefing, Mr. Holt said that while the Subcommittee members would
rob bl ask questions
he would suggest that this not be included in any a ai
in our prepared statement. He also said that the Subcommittee would
be interested in some information concerning "Cuban refugee outfits."
. I I Talked with Mr. Stark, Deputy Director of
the Joint Economic Committee. We reviewed the exchange of correspondence
between the Committee and the Agency relative to our cooperation in the
Committee's preparation of a study on Communist China. Stark mentioned
that lack of attribution to the authors of the Agency items gave them some
problems since all other contributions were identified, however, he indicated
that they could live with this arrangement if necessary. He pointed out,
however, that he was quite certain this new study would attract considerable
attention. Stark took this opportunity to mention that the Agency might want
to "take a. second look" at the Rush Greenslade piece prepared for the Com-
mittee's Soviet study since, as Stark put it, the item was rather "colorful."
Stark was obviously thinking about the George Carver situation in making
this suggestion.
