Sometime in 1951, the Soviet Geological Research Mission which has been active in eastern Bulgaria for the past three or four years., allegedly 'discovered oil deposits in the vicinity of Shabla village, Varna district. The Mission also allegedly found new iron deposits which are "80 percent-iron and very black in color, resembling graphite'! in the area between.Yambol and. Elkhovo. An agricultural cooperative was formed in Veselets (sic), Kubrat district,, in 1950. By March 1952, 50 of the 1.00 families'in the village belonged. to the cooperative and controlled approximately 12,000 decares of land. The modern agricultural machinery used by the farmers is borrowed from the Kubrat Machine Tractor Station. courses are given once a week., are taught by Army officers, and are obligatory far all students.
