The Prahova Cooperative Union (Uniunea Cooperativelor Prahova) is the supply center for all cooperatives in the Prahova district and the town of Ploesti. It is the district organization of the General Cooperative Union. Offices and stores are located at 84, Bulevardul Ferdinand (former name), Ploesti. The stores stock approximately 2,000 tons of various goods, including textiles, furniture, iron and glassware, domestic appliances and coke. 2. There are 240 branches of the Union in the Prahova district. Even the smallest villages have their cooperative store. The Union employs 180 persons in Ploesti and approximately 480 in the Prahova district. For the first nine months of 1951 the Union in the Prahova district had a turnover of 130 million ? SOthes? plows, plowshares, chemical 'fertilizers, glass shiimmiya: for kerosene lamps, paper $ ink, pencils, matches and lamp oil are always in short supply. One liter of lamp oil is issued per month to each family. Cloth and linen, earmarked for the peasants, is sold on the black market by the local c? operative managers, 14. The peasants are dissatisfied with the low priceswhich they receive for their products from the cooperative. For instance, they are paid 1.80.1ei for an egg, which will bring 4 lei on the open market. 5. The Prahova Union received 6,000 barrels of a chemical preparation for the treatment of wheat. The preparation could not be used and had to be returned to the factory, 6. In August or September of 1951.a new deportment was opened to barter building materials against farm products. One cubic meter of building timber was reportedly to be exchanged for 80 chickens or 120 kilograms of fat or 200 kilograms of wheat or 70 kilograms of beans. Prices and system of calculations are not known. Only workers with special passes are snowed into the oilfields. 8. The following personality is known: s. Victor, head of oil transport department at Ploesti (Niscare) railroad station. He is I a Party member bnt despises the Cormnunists and the government.
