THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
The airbase at Gliwice.(Gleiwitz) is'located about five kilometers west of the
city, and is connected with the city by a railroad line. The base encompasses
about eight square kilometers of land including space used by buildings,
landing fields, and reserve depots. t is responsible for supplying Soviet air
units with reservo parts, arms,'living?quarters and'all types of material, and
also provides similar"assistance to Soviet paratroopers which are stationed in the
Gliwice area.
2. There are twelve large storage depots on the base; some twenty men are assigned
to each of the depots," which. ere used for storing equipment needed in connection
with the.opgration-f the field. The field has its own radio station. The
entire area is guarded by troops of the VVS (Voyenno-Vozdushnyye Sily - Soviet
Air Force) and by ' MVD,troops, South of the field is a special area where
paratroop units are equipped.
