4. The former HUANG HAI (7806/3189)4, a steamship formerly owned by the Nationalist
Government and owned by the Min Sheng (3046/3923), has been renamed the MEI TA
(5019/6691) The Chinese Communists have covertly leased the ship through the
Tai P?ing Yang (1132/1627/3152) Company5 to the Chieh Chffeng (2212/2052) Company.
The ship has a gross tonnage of 2,400 tons and a net tonnage of 1,9900 tons, flies
the Panamanian flag, and is worth US $200,000. On 23 July 1952 the MEI TA was on 25X1
her way from Hong Kong to Bangkok. A large majority of the ship?s crew were not
satisfied with their treatment and were ready for mutiny.
