(LISTED BELOW) SUPPLEMENT REPORT NO. THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION 10 In April. 1951, Zavod No. 11 at Sopot was producing agricultural machinery and ammunition. The larger section-of the factory produced plows, harvesters, and heavy trailers for earth-moving machinery. 2. Production in the agricultural machinery section was slow and often had to be cut down or halted because of defective material.. Scarcity of such items as roller bearings often caused layoffs, the longest of which lasted one month. Shop No. 341. of the agricultural machinery section repaired military motor vehicles. 3. The ammunition section, which produced shells and mines, consisted of the follow- ing five shops- a. Mine-casting shop; b a Shell.-pressing shop; c. Shop No, 332, precision workshop for shell. finishing; d "Trutivrna," filling shop;, and p. Charge-placing and shipping shop. This quota was . divided into moi thl.y, norms which varied according to the material available. The ammunitions section had large stores-of raw-material ; but was forced to close certain sections because of d.efective machinery, in February 1951,, the ovens in the pressing section cracked and caused -a - twoweek -delay in the shell production line., In August 1951, the entire factory was placed under the Ministry of War and geared to military production. 8. In April 195.., the zavod employed a total of 1,500 workers in three 8-hour shifts per day. Workers were transported to and from the factory in special trucks. All employees of Zavod. No. 1.1 were members of the ORPS (Obsht Rabotnicheski Pro- fesionalen Stayuz; General Workers Professional Union). Most of the older workers were members of the Communist Party and most young men were members of the.DSNM (Dimitrovski Suyuz na Narodnata.Mladezh,; Dimitrov Union of the People's Youth). The few employees who were not members of either Communist organization were sub- ject to Summary dismissal., From September 1950 to April 1951, Totyu Denev Tsa v the chief director of the Zavocl nTh_ 11.1 In April 1951. Lieutenant Pet was in charge of Shop No. 332, 10, In April 1951, Georgi Kirkov1was chief mechanic in Shop No. 332. Technical Training u 11. Zavod No. 11.operates both a "Zavod School".and a "Technical, School" for employees. The 94Zavod School," which has two classes with a total of approximately 1.l+0 students, is open to workers who have completed the third progymnasium class. Students study full-time for two years., after which they are reQuired to work three years at the factory. Engineer PetkoV teaches chemistry at the school. 12. The .?.Technical School" is open to students who have completed the third progymnasium class.. Students are paid 12,000 levy per month plus overtime as high as 8,000 leva for working and studying. Technical degrees are given after four year"s. study. The 25X1 "Technical School9P is operated in two shifts- a. 5000 a.m. to 1'.00 p.m., work; 5000 p.m. to 10.-00 p.m., studies; and b. 7.-00 a.m. to 1200 noon, studies; 1:00 p.m to 8000 p.m., work. 13. Yordan 3vanov Gospodinov was the Director of the ec n .ca coo . Security 14. In April 1951, the zavod was guarded by 50 militiamen who were armed with the follow- ing weapons.- a. Walther pistols; b. Parabellum pistols; c. Shpagin submachine guns; and Rifles..
