Production at Resita falls into two categories, the production of steel and iron and the.manufacture of finished products 2. In 1951 Resita produced 18,000 tons of steel. This included 16,000 tons of rolled steel and 2,000 tons of raw steel. Of the 16,000 tons-of rolled steel, about 8,000 tons were reserved for manufacturing at Resita and the rest went to other factories in Rumania. The 8,000 tons re- served for Resita were divided into three sections: a. 4,500 tons for finished products; b. 2,500 to 3,000 tons for the investments plan and interior develop- ment; c. 500 tons for an undesignated.use. The 4,500 tons for finished products may be further broken down as follows: a. 2,200-2,500 tons in finished products for delivery to the USSR in accordance with the provisions, of the peace treaty and commercial agreements. These manufactured goods are divided for shipment as follows: (1) CLASSIFICATION SECRET/CONTROL - U. S. OFFICIALS ONLY -3- n. 6 March Tohan - special steels and varieties of rolled steel for the manufacture of special couplings and other materiel for the USSR. (It is reported that 6 March. Tohan will begin manufacturing spare parts for arms as well as munitions in 1952 and it will probably receive supplies from Resita for this production); o. Cugir-Hunedoara - small quantities of steel and rolled steel for the production of precision instruments; The Vulcan, Steaua Rosie, Vasile Roita, and Republic factories (all in Bucharest).- rolled steel, stamped sheets of steel, and steel ingots. (Vulcan produces draw bridges and petroleum tanks. Vasile Roita manufactures agricultural equipment. Republica produces large quantities of pipes as well as locomotive boilers); q.
