On 1 April 1952 work began on a new, reinforced .concrete road across .the
Oder, 500 meters upstream from the main railroad bridge in Frankfurt.. Target
date fir completion -is 1 October 1953
When compietet, -the- br**w will be 550 meters in length anti .will consist of
13 spans; the rrtral n will be 80 meters in width. A new road is to be
built from the east end through Poland to connect with the Brest Litovsk
Smolensk highway.
In earlyt+tay the caissons were being sunk in the bed.of the river. 8itbsequently
progress was delayed by a isnortage of wooden planking ,to beused in supporting
the concrete molds..
